Open Day, Saturday 11th of November
It was fantastic to meet so many of our potential self-builders at our Open Day on Saturday, and the sun shone for us too, showing off our beautiful site in a good light! The view from the site was beautiful, coloured in autumn’s brightest tones.
We welcomed many people who had signed up to be Early Birds, people who are interested in pre-reserving ahead of the sales launch early next year, plus others who wanted to find out more about the self-build process and to visit the site. Many people lived or worked locally, and know what a great location Orchard Farm in Kennington is, whilst others had travelled from further afield including London and Rochester and Sevenoaks.
Visitors were pleased to be given the opportunity, at this early stage, to speak to our Network of Experts, including architects, financial advisers and construction professionals, to find out how they might be able to help them. The experts also came from near and far and made a huge effort to be there so that they could present their ideas on self-building at Orchard Farm.
We’d marked out the plots on the site and, through the wonders of technology, people were able to see how the development could look in the landscape. People loved being on the site and seeing the plots. We could see their eyes lighting up thinking "Can we do this? I think we might be able to do this, maybe this could be a reality for us." It’s a step into the unknown, but it is a step they want to take and we are ready to guide anyone, step by step, on their self-build journey.
As the potential self-builders started talking to each other, you could see how this new community could grow. As Thomas, one of our team members said, it was really inspiring. There was lots of animated conversation and a great buzz in the conference room at the Conningbrook hotel too and, as you’ll see from the photos, lots of laughter too.

Hannah is excited to start working with the future self-builders at Orchard Farm. It’s a beautiful site, perfectly suited for this unique housing scheme. Self-build is not as common in the UK as it is in Europe. That is why we're so pleased Orchard Farm is partnering with Steenvlinder, a Dutch development company with over a decade of experience in this growing sector. Together, we have devised a well-structured self-build process, starting with a 9-week Reservation Period to investigate the self-build adventure ahead. There are many things to manage and many questions that you just can’t answer yourself. We’re here to help and make sure everyone can start with confidence.
Don’t worry if you couldn’t join us, we missed you but there will be more opportunities to visit the site and we’ll soon be starting a series of webinars where you can join us online to ask any questions you may have.
